Several years ago I was working on a new tune called "Nightful". It had some fairly strange lyrics. I remember working on the song in the early hours of the morning in my basement studio. I admit that my TR808 drum machine was pounding pretty heavily. My wife came down to the studio from our second story bedroom and asked, "What are you doing???" I evidently had woken her up. My answer was not the best. I said, "Well, that's really interesting because I'm working on a song about things that keep people awake at night!" I was sorta enthusiastic about it, but it didn't go over real good. I still haven't released that tune, but maybe one day I will. I like it.

So . . . that's what "Pushing My Buttons" is basically about. Welcome to my secret world.

The painting that I did for the album cover is also called "Pushing My Buttons". It has some references to what might be going on when I'm making sinister sounds late at night.

I gave up long ago on the glory days (so long ago)
I couldn’t get arrested
And I still try but I barely get by
And at least some friends think I’m alright
