That’s pretty much the truth – I don’t get out much. Too much work to do. On I Don’t Go Out, we have Clint playing drums, Jamie on guitars, and me on vocals, keyboards and guitars. We also have a guest on this track, tenor saxophone player Brett Miles. As Nik said, “Brett totally killed it on the sax tracks!” I agree . . . Brett is fantastic! I also give a lot of credit to Nik for getting great sounds in the studio on Clint’s drums and on Brett’s sax. You can feel the drums and hear every breath and nuance on the sax. And on the alternate version of this song, I Don’t Go Out (Bossa), we hear more of Brett’s warm, intimate sounds. Really special. When we were recording Brett, I mentioned Stan Getz . . . and that’s what we got. Here’s a curiosity . . . on that new melody you hear at the end of this first version of the song – the tag, played by Jamie on electric guitar – I was thinking of Glen Campbell and his trademark low tremolo guitar. That’s the only time that melody (along with my vocal ooo’s) is heard in the song. On the alternate version, the bossa, that line is more prominent and is the opening melody that you hear in the song. I moved things around quite a lot throughout this whole album.
lyrics
I Don’t Go Out
by Wilfred Kozub
I don’t go out
Too much work that needs to be done
And anyhow, it’s my choice
Don’t need to have fun
I don’t go out
Simply said, I stay in my head
And I’m all right – that’s what I said,
I’ll be all right
Did I say something I didn’t mean?
Don’t let rumours ruin our thing
Can’t go where I might be seen
I don’t go out
Just need a few more days to myself
Sort it out . . . forget the past
Is that too much to ask?
Remember when we laughed at the same things
Remember when we were one and the same
How could we ever let that go?
I knew you and you knew me inside out
We didn’t have to go too far to find that out
It was just natural
I don’t go out
There is no compromise this time
Unless of course you change your mind
And I change mine
I don’t go out
Don’t go out alone
But, hey, what about you?

Wilfred N & the Grown Men are a pop/rock institution in their home town of Edmonton, Canada. With roots in the New Wave scene of the early 80s, the group reliably offers up a striking set of tuneful and significant new songs of imagination and depth.
Beautiful, original album – I believe this is one of the best to ever come out of Edmonton. Amy van Keeken's songs and voice sparkle with authenticity. Wilfred N & the Grown Men
