Everyday I start my day just like everybody else I smile when people pass me by They’ll think I feel good about myself Maybe I’m forgettable Maybe I’m a sorry soul What if I’m not even a contender? I don’t know Nobody has to know Nobody has to know I don’t need to be in the limelight When I can stay underground with you ‘cause the two of us is magic You and me and me and you There’s a world inside the world That’s where I want to be Just float down the silent streets When real life is too much like it seems Nobody has to know Nobody has to know No rain please no more rain I’m ready now for sunlight Keep to the business of getting ahead And when you help me rise above myself I can get out of my head I need your inspiration To keep in good condition . . . and some proper nutrition Nobody has to know Nobody has to know Nobody has to know Nobody has to know

We’re playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud I know you’re my bud When we’re playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud Honey, you’re my bud When we’re playing in the mud When you’re feeling too much stress ‘cause the world is such a mess And you know you can’t give up ‘cause you never must give up And you’re feeling kinda strange And you know it ain’t gonna change Shakin’ my head – shakin’ my head – shakin’ my head We’re playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud Baby, you’re my bud When we’re playing in the mud Playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud Honey, I’m in love When we’re playing in the mud Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo . . . Shakin’ my head – shakin’ my head It gets worse then it gets better It gets worse then it gets better Things get worse then they get better It gets worse then it gets better When you’re feeling too uptight ‘cause you always gotta get it right That’s when you know it’s time ( it’s time ) Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo When you’re feeling kinda sad And you wish you had what you had How’re you gonna get it back? Where are you gonna go When you’ve lost everything you know? ( 1 – 2 – 3 ) We’re playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud I know you’re my bud When we’re playing in the mud Playing in the mud We’re playing in the mud Honey, I’m in love When we’re playing in the mud Playing in the mud Playing in the mud Oh . . . I’m in love When we’re playing in the mud Playing in the mud Playing in the mud I know you’re my bud When we’re playing in the mud

No rain . . . please, no more rain

about

This is Wilfred N & the Grown Men's Spring Single 2014. Tracks are A-side: "Nobody Has To Know" B-side: "Playing In The Mud" and bonus track: "Please, No More Rain".

"Nobody Has To Know" is one of Wilfred Kozub's finest to date. This one is all dreaminess where it sounds like Wilfred's having a bit of a downer. But when the 'nobody has to know' chorus kicks in . . . triumph! It's all cool. Chimes and fat synths make an intriguing backdrop to Wilfred's Nile Rodgers-inspired rhythm guitar groove, and Jamie Philp's bold lead moves are stunning.

Traditionally, the b-side of a single is the fun side, and on the group's 2014 spring single the b-side is "Playing In The Mud". Here is what Wilfred has to say about it:
"Last summer, we added a load of fresh dirt to our flower garden. Then it rained . . . and rained . . . and rained . . . and the garden turned into a soppy mess of MUD. Our grand kids were over and we let them go at it – little kids are supposed to get to do that, RIGHT??? YES! So they got totally slathered in mud: they squished it in their hands and between their toes; the smeared knees and elbows and got it up their nose. Then we washed them down with a hose! That's when I went inside and wrote this song, and that's pretty much all there is to it!"

"Please No More Rain" came about late last summer when there was a ridiculous amount of rain happening in Alberta. (In Edmonton it rained o'plenty, but nothing like what they experienced in Calgary – which was epic!) The rain was happening while Wilfred was recording vocals on the fly – spontaneously making up the lyrics to "Nobody Has To Know". The words 'no rain . . . please, no more rain" bubbled up right when Wilfred got to the middle-eight section of the songs, and the rest of the song just took over. Later, he says, he extracted that 'please, no more rain' section to create a new mini-version of it, complete with rain and thunder (...on the tundra), and that short piece became "Please, No More Rain". Somehow, the addition of that little song turns the Wilfred N & the Grown Men Spring Single into something of a 'mini' mini-album! How did he do that!!
